Movement along a strike-slip fault is in the horizontal plane, and the displacement is parallel to the strike of the fault. This is often described as a side by side motion.

Answer to Question 2

Both normal and reverse faults are dip-slip faults, meaning that the motion along the fault occurs in the vertical plane. In a normal fault, the motion of the hanging wall block is downward. In a reverse fault, the motion of the hanging wall block is upward.
