Answer to Question 1

A

Answer to Question 2

Once the elastic limit (strength) of a rock is surpassed, it either flows (ductile deformation) or fractures (brittle deformation). Where temperatures and confining pressures are low, rocks tend to behave like a brittle solid and fracture once their strength is exceeded. Ductile deformation is a type of solid-state flow that produces a change in the size and shape of an object without fracturing.
