There is no simple answer to this question. Rural settlement in Australia is usually considered
very low density, whereas islands may have mixed densities based on their resources for people.
Those who argue that it is over-populated point to the country's ecosystem and concentration of
peoples in the urban areas; those who argue that it is under-populated point out the need for
expanding markets, labor force, and tax-base.
