Discuss the potential ramifications of the United States' restricting the importation of Chinese goods in order to put pressure on the Chinese government for human-rights reforms?

A major ramification is that U.S. firms that outsourced their factories to China would be adversely affected; most would be forced to relocate to some other country. Equally important is that China might pull its sizeable investments from the United States; over the past decades, China has invested considerably in U.S. bonds and currency. Were this to happen, the US economy could be plunged into a deep recession, if not depression. Lastly, if the United States were to admonish China for its human rights policies and practices, China would respond by issuing an article detailing U.S. violations of human rightsthis has, in fact, already occurred.
