Answer to Question 1

Much of the western developed world has legalized gay marriage, provided a substitute civil
status, or protected same-sex partners from criminalization. Other parts of the world have
continued harsh criminal and not protected gay rights generally.

Answer to Question 2

Answers should mention problems with energy supplies from the Middle East and Russia.
