- Golden Mean: In Aristotle's ethics, the desirable middle between two extremes, one of excess and the other of deficiency; a moral philosophy based on the concepts of temperance (moderation), self-discipline, and balance (an approach analogous to the Middle Way practiced in Buddhism).
