During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, there was much unrest in
  Germany. Armies set fire to farms, ruined fields of grain, and stole livestock. High taxes,
  hunger, and religious disputes also caused many Germans to migrate to the colony of
  Pennsylvania. They hoped to lead a better life in North America.
