Is the process of partial melting more likely to produce magmas that are more mafic or more felsic?
  Why? What will be an ideal response?



Question 2

Why can an intruding mafic magma assimilate felsic country rock, but an intruding felsic magma
  cannot assimilate mafic country rock? What will be an ideal response?

More mafic-felsic rocks melt at lower temperatures than do mafic rocks.

Answer to Question 2

Mafic magma has a higher temperature than felsic magma, while felsic rock melts at lower
temperatures than mafic rock
