Answer to Question 1

Divergent plate boundaries are the areas of greatest heat flow, but most of them are underwater.
Iceland is an example of a country at a divergent plate boundary where there is abundant geothermal
energy being utilized. Secondly, volcanic areas in general have high potential as sources of geothermal
energy. On this basis, the Pacific Ring of Fire is likely to provide much of the world's geothermal
energy in the future. Third, hot spots are a good heat source as, for example, in the case of the
geothermal power plant located in the Lower East Rift Zone of Kilauea Volcano on the island of
Hawaii.

Answer to Question 2

The main reasons are that dams have already been built on the most favorable sites, the cost of land
and environmental considerations. Environmental considerations include changing a natural ecological
system into one that must be managed, displacement of people and dam failures
