Answer to Question 1

The objective of environmental public policy is to promote the common good. While it may be difficult to define the common good, the two most central concerns are the improvement of human welfare and the protection of the natural world. Because of this, environmental public policy addresses two sets of environmental issues: One is the prevention or reduction of all types of pollution, and the other is the use of both renewable and nonrenewable natural resources.

Answer to Question 2

Intra-generational equity is the golden rule of making possible for others what is possible for you. If others have the same social awareness, the amount of environmental degradation will be less.
Intergenerational equity is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This is also the definition of sustainability. Intergenerational equity will help us reduce environmental degradation without compromising our own needs.
