Answer to Question 1

Answer: The great internal pressure of the Earth raises the melting point of the minerals.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The acceleration due to gravity is not the same over the planet. It is less at the equator than at the poles because the planet bulges out farther at the equator. This oblate spheroid shape is the result of rotation.
