Answer to Question 1

Answer: Volcanic bombs are semimolten upon ejection. As they move through the air, friction with the air pulls them into a teardrop shape.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Earthquakes centered under the volcano with foci that are increasingly shallow are a sign magma is moving into the magma chamber. A strong precursor to eruptions is often a period of seismic unrest followed by a period of relative quiet.
