The arkose contains greater than 25 feldspar (both potassium and sodium-rich plagioclase feldspar) along with abundant quartz. What kind of igneous rock might have weathered to produce the sediment? Hint: Look back to Figure 4.3 in your textbook.

The other minerals present in the granite are biotite and amphibole. Both of these are Fe-Mg rich minerals and they are not present in the arkose because they have been chemically weathered into clay and Fe-oxides (hence the reddish color of the arkose).
