The airway pressure is then abruptly reversed to 30 to 50 cm H2O and maintained for 2 to 3 sec. Peak expiratory cough flows obtained with this device are in the normal range (mean of 7.5 L/sec), far better than that can be achieved with manually assisted coughing.
