Cardiac fibers are separated by irregular transverse thickenings of the sarcolemma called interca-lated discs. These discs provide structural support and aid in electrical conduction between fi-bers.

In combination, the branches of the left coronary artery normally supply most of the left ventri-cle, the left atrium, and the anterior two-thirds of the interventricular septum.
