Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
IR spectroscopy is currently the method of choice in critical care settings, and mass spectroscopy is most often used in surgical suites.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
CO2 and N2O have the same molecular weight and are not able to be separated on the basis of molecular weight, which can lead to erroneous readings. This problem is overcome by ionizing N2O to N2O+ and CO2 to C+.
