Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
The Hayek Oscillator is technically classified as an electrically powered noninvasive ventilator. This device consists of a flexible chest cuirass that is applied over the chest wall. The device de-livers both negative and positive pressure to the chest wall during the respiratory cycle. The nega-tive pressure creates inspiration, and the positive pressure produces a forced exhalation.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Esophageal surgery is listed in Clinical Practice Guideline 7-3 as a contraindication to the use of positive airway pressure adjuncts to bronchial hygiene therapy.
