Answer to Question 1

General anesthetics cause a loss of feeling in the entire body and
the patient is unconscious during surgery. Local anesthetics
block pain only in the area to be operated on and the patient is
awake during surgery.

Answer to Question 2

Skin preparation guidelines are: conduct shaving and cleaning
in a well-lighted room; know the exact area to be shaved and
washed; watch for scratches, pimples, cuts, sores, and rashes;
and make sure the razor and blade are tight.
