The nurse should pad the board with a towel and fasten it with tape. The armboard should be secured to the client's extremity after the IV is in place and secure. The nurse should change the towel or washcloth on the armboard if it is soiled, even if the IV therapy is continuing. The nurse should check the extremity every hour to ensure that circulation is not hampered.
