The nurse should remove linens without shaking them or allowing them to touch the clothing. The nurse can use reusable equipment and supplies after properly sterilizing them. The nurse should use syringes and needles safely and should not recap or attempt to break needles.

If the patient's own skin cannot be used (autograft), cadaver skin or skin from another persona homograft (homogeneic)or allograft (allogeneic) may be used. If the donor and recipient are genetically identical, an isograft can be done. In some severe burns, especially in areas such as the hands, which are susceptible to contractures, pigskin as a heterograft or xenograft (xenogeneic) is grafted into place.
