It could cause exophthalmosis, a condition in which the eyeballs protrude from the eye sockets.

Rats may be picked up just behind the shoulders and held in one hand, with the rump supported by the other hand. Mice can be quickly picked up by the tail and placed on a screened surface. When the mouse tries to escape, the restrainer can grasp the mouse in a scruff.
