What is atropinase and how does it affect pre-surgical protocol with rabbits?

Why is intubation more difficult in a rabbit than in other species? The epiglottis is more caudal than in other species.

Answer to Question 1

Atropinase is an enzyme that counteracts the effects of atropine. Atropine may have no effect in the rabbit and is usually not administered as a part of the pre-anesthesia protocol.

Answer to Question 2

The oral cavity is very small, the tongue is thick and muscular and the tracheal opening is more caudal than in other species.
