(a) People use ferrets for hunting rabbits, driving out rats, wiring airplanes, and researching human colds.
Other answers may be possible.
(b) The ferret meister was an exterminator. This was a person who owned ferrets and would bring them to a
farm or granary to go into holes and chase out rodents. People and dogs would wait for the rats to come
out, and then kill them.
