Answer to Question 1

D
The nurse would understand that the student is in identity diffusion. Identify diffusion refers to avoiding making commitments and may indicate a need for mental health services. The fact that student who is shadowing the nurse, has had several girlfriends, and is unsure of his career choice indicate that he may be socially skilled but unable to reach his intellectual or physical potential.

Answer to Question 2

D
The summer camp students from middle and high school age are in Erikson's stage of identity versus role confusion. The nurse would therefore base interactions and responses on an understanding of normal developmental tasks to be accomplished at this stage. The major task would be development of their own identity or sense of self.
