Answer to Question 1

C
Mechanical ventilation with 100 oxygen is provided prior to inducing electrical seizure activity and until the effects of succinylcholine paralysis wear off and the client is able to breath on his or her own. This typically takes about 5 minutes. Meperidine (Demerol), Narcan, and nitrous oxide generally are not used for ECT.

Answer to Question 2

C
Teaching the client about her antianxiety medications would be an important part of an autonomous generalist nursing intervention. In addition, the nurse could also assess the level of anxiety and the degree of interference with normal nursing activities. Teaching skills of cognitive restructuring and initiating supportive therapy are also options for the nurse.
