Belief systems play a vital role in determining whether a particular explanation and associated treatment plan will have meaning for the patient and others in the patient's social network. Declaring that something is routine/mandatory does not address the patient's question nor does ensuring confidentiality. Addressing religious beliefs is only a partial focus of the interview process.
