Answer to Question 1

A
A day care program provides recreation and social interaction. Nursing, medical, and rehabilitative care are usually not provided. Skilled nursing facilities go beyond meeting recreational and social needs by providing medical interventions and nursing and rehabilitation services, usually on a 24-hour basis. Partial hospitalization provides acute psychiatric hospital programs. A psychotherapy group is not appropriate and would not meet the patient's needs.

Answer to Question 2

C
A shortage of psychiatrists prompted the need for group therapy in the 1940s. Mental health facilities did not begin to decrease in number until psychotherapeutic drugs were introduced in the 1950s. No federal grant was provided for group therapy.
