Answer to Question 1

When the hedgehog hyper-salivates creating a white, foam saliva (spit) that it licks, or paints onto its spines. This can occur with any new taste or new smell in the environment.

Answer to Question 2

They can become vocal (bark), spit, and squirt urine. Rarely do they bite.
