Answer to Question 1

In one example of social dominance, certain chickens in a flock are allowed to have priority for space, food, and water. Baby pigs have been competitive about which teat they will nurse. Dominant pigs are allowed to be first to the feed trough, and they establish where they want to sleep in the pen. If two or more males are in the same flock or herd, one will be the dominant male who will mate with most of the females.
