Answer to Question 1

Answer to Question 2

Ethylene is an odorless, colorless gas and is called the aging hormone for plant materials. The effects
of ethylene manifest in one of two ways: Flowers wilt, wither, and die, or flowers fall off the stem.
Wilting-type, ethylene-sensitive flowers include carnations, sweet peas, and many others. Some
shattering-type flowers that stay intact, but fall off stem, are snapdragons and dendrobium orchids.
Floral department employees must commit to minimizing ethylene production by sanitizing flower
buckets, coolers, work tables, and tools.
