Answer to Question 1

Pipes coming together from different directions may be connected by an elbow, tee, or Y. The elbow
or ell is used where a single line changes direction. The tee and Y are used where a line splits in two
directions.

Answer to Question 2

A hammering noise may be caused by worn threads on the stem or a loose washer. If the problem is
worn threads, the stem or entire faucet may need replacing. If the hammering is caused by a loose
washer, it is corrected by tightening and/or replacing the washer.
