Answer to Question 1

ANS:
Soil is saturated when water fills all the spaces or pores in the soil. If soil remains saturated for too long, plants will die from lack of air around their roots. The water that drains out of soil after it has been wetted is called free water, or gravitational water. Gravitational water feeds wells and springs. When gravitational water leaves the soil, some moisturecapillary waterremains, and this can be taken up by plant roots. Water that is held too tightly for plant roots to absorb is hygroscopic water.

Answer to Question 2

ANS:
Sheet erosion occurs as layers of soil are removed from the land, whereas gully erosion is severe soil loss that leaves trenches in the land surface.
