Controlled grazing can be used to control dense undergrowth. Hardwoods in the understory can be eaten, which
helps in maintaining pure pine forests in pine plantations. Insect and disease problems also may be helped because
the undergrowth is controlled

Wildlife can eat the seeds or young seedlings, tree shoots, twigs, and buds.
