Answer to Question 1

It is easier and quicker to weigh a load of wood than to measure its volume in cords. Paying by weight encourages
the producer to deliver freshly cut wood because it is heavier than aged wood, and fresh wood is easier for the
buyer to chip and process

Answer to Question 2

We produce the same number of trees on fewer acres because of better forest management techniques and more
productive varieties. We produce more products from the same number of trees by more efficient use of the parts
of the tree.
