Answer to Question 1

It is the process of extracting the excess salt from salt water, leaving fresh water.

Answer to Question 2

In reality, there is plenty of fresh water in the world. People in arid regions might disagree, but it is true. Too often,
the water is not available when and where it is needed. In other cases the water is not clean enough for human use
and water treatment facilities are not available.
