are done at this time.

 Define pruning goals, and determine the best time of the year to prune.
 Prune cautiously.
 Use sharp tools.
 Start pruning with parts that pose a threat to the plant.
 Select scaffold branches with wide branch angles.
 Do not prune too close to the trunk of the tree, and do not leave too much of a stub.
 Leave a small portion of stem above the bud.
 Prune to direct branches outward, not inward.
