Answer to Question 1

Aeration is beneficial to lawn grass because it adds oxygen to the soil by breaking up
plugs of soil. It also stimulates root growth and promotes moisture intake.

Answer to Question 2

When more than one-third of the lawn grass plants are dead, and large bare spots exist,
it may be better to kill the existing grass with a nonselective herbicide and reseed the
entire area. For thinly covered lawns, spot seeding or spot patching with turf is often the
best option.
