Answer to Question 1

Most broilers are raised on contract. This means that the producer supplies the house,
utilities, and labor. A company supplies a producer with chicks, feed, medication, and
other supplies. The company pays the producer for the broilers at the end of the growout
period. This substantially reduces the risk for the producer.

Answer to Question 2

The poultry industry includes the raising of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, game birds,
and squab.
