Explain why tonic water is an excellent preservative for cut flowers.

Answer to Question 1

It contains sugar to supply the cut flowers with carbohydrate for respiration. It is acidic, which reduces the rate of bacterial growth in the water. It contains preservative, which inhibits bacterial growth in the water.

Answer to Question 2

Use a plant stand, pedestal, or other design element to raise it to a higher level.
