Rationale: If stabilization of the hip is required, a cast is initially applied. This is kept in place for 3 to 6 months until the hip is stabilized. After this is completed, and if further treatment is required, a Pavlik harness is the treatment of choice next. A Pavlik harness is a removable ab-duction brace.
