The crutch pad should fit 1 1/2 to 2 inches below the axilla. The hand grip should be adjusted to allow for the patient to have elbows bent at 30 degree flexion. Crutches are used to increase patient mobility.

One general documentation guideline is to document all telephone calls made or received that are related to a patient's case. Nursing documentation should include the change in the patient's condition.
