Answer to Question 1

A
Feedback:
Binders are primarily used to provide support to surgical wounds in locations where the wound may be subject to stresses. Binders are not used to prevent skin breakdown, to prevent infection, or to prevent inflammation, though each of these goals is relevant to healthy wound healing.

Answer to Question 2

B
Feedback:
When caring for a client with a respiratory infection, the nurse washes his or her hands frequently and thoroughly and wears a mask. The nurse need not get monthly immunizations against infections. Avoiding contact with the client is also not a good alternative, as the nurse needs to be near the client to provide adequate care. Gloves may be necessary, but these do not need to be sterile.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
