Overhydration, early renal disease, and inadequate antidiuretic hormone secretion reduce specific gravity. Increased blood pressure is associated with renal disease or damage and some medications. Abnormal blood sugars would be seen in someone with ketones in the urine or a patient with diabetes.

Assess for delayed hypersensitivity to the contrast media. Intravenous pyelography is performed by administering iodine-based dye to view functionality of the urinary system.
