Answer to Question 1

ANS: 2
Criminal laws prevent harm to society and provide punishment for crimes (often imprisonment). A felony is a crime of a serious nature that has a penalty of imprisonment for greater than 1 year or even death. A misdemeanor is a less serious crime that has a penalty of a fine or imprisonment for less than 1 year. An example of criminal conduct for nurses is misuse of a controlled sub-stance. Civil laws protect the rights of individual persons within our society and encourage fair and equitable treatment among people. Common law is created by judicial decisions made in courts when individual legal cases are decided (i.e., informed consent). Administrative law is created by administrative bodies, such as state boards of nursing, when they pass rules and regu-lations.

Answer to Question 2

Administrative law is created by administrative bodies, such as state boards of nursing when they pass rules and regulations such as unethical nursing conduct. Civil laws protect the rights of indi-vidual persons within our society and encourage fair and equitable treatment among people. Criminal laws prevent harm to society and provide punishment for crimes (often imprisonment). Common law is created by judicial decisions made in courts when individual legal cases are de-cided.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
