Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
The primary use of an opioid analgesic is to prevent or relieve moderate to severe acute or chronic pain of various etiologies, including traumatic injuries, burns, biliary or renal colic, cancer-related pain and postoperative pain, and for analgesia during labor and delivery and diagnostic proce-dures. Constipation would be considered an adverse effect of opioid use.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Because the patient will be awake but will not appear to be, ensure that conversations taking place in the patient's presence contain information suitable for the patient to hear. A sign should be placed on the patient's bed to alert visitors that the patient is in a drug-induced paralysis.
