Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Iron dextran is reserved for patients with a clear diagnosis of iron deficiency for whom oral iron is either ineffective or intolerable, such as those with intestinal disease, who could not absorb the iron.
Patients with asthma can take oral iron.
A dislike of the taste of iron is not a justification for IV iron administration, because the iron taste can be easily disguised.
Oral iron therapy is not contraindicated for a patient with a history of hypertension.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A, B, C, D
The most significant consequences of vitamin B12 deficiency are anemia and injury to the nervous system. Additional effects include GI disturbances and impaired production of white blood cells and platelets.
Hyponatremia and hypokalemia are not manifestations of vitamin B12 deficiency.
