Metformin is contraindicated in patients with diabetes complicated by fever, severe infections, severe trauma, major surgery, acidosis, and pregnancy. Metformin will not be given more frequently to decrease blood sugar. Metformin should be discontinued and is not administered for better regulation of blood sugar. Metformin will not decrease the absorption of glucose in this patient.
