Which instrument is most suitable for playing polyphonic counterpoint?

Question 2

While late Baroque composers reintroduced polyphony to the musical texture of
  their music, compositions of the period still emphasized the melody and basso
  continuo at the expense of the middle parts, which was basically considered as
