Answer to Question 1

Women respond to the initial high-pitched poetic cries of a woman, followed by a drum.
A male voice sings in free rhythm on vocables (meaningless syllables); another overlapping voice is heard toward the end of this melody
Solo introduction by the mijwiza, a single-reed, double-piped clarinet, typical of the Levant, is followed by the nay (reed flute), buzuq (long-necked lute), and qanun (zither) playing in call and response texture (solo answered by group).
The song proper begins with a man singing the beginning of each line of poetry and a group of women completing each line.

Answer to Question 2

This example of Arab singing and poetry recitation, which includes the high-pitched, poetic cries of a woman who calls for blessings on the groom, might be used at a wedding within a community of Arab people in Dearborn, Michigan.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
