Answer to Question 1

 Both use gamelan ensembles with similar instruments; Balinese music is based on the slndro scale system and a version of the plog scale system; similar gong punctuation patterns occur in Balinese music; and both areas use gamelan music for ritual celebrations (although not in private residences in Bali).

Answer to Question 2

 The majority of Balinese do not adhere to Islam rather they follow a blend of Hinduism and Buddhism resembling that which flourished in Java prior to the spread of Islam.
